<p>I can&#8217;t help but blog about these really interesting statics that I found while doing some research on the current state of online media. Its quite mind blowing as to what the internet is becoming, particularly social media. Not only has the online worl changed the way information is shared, even the dynamics of relationships have evolved. It continues to evolve.</p>
<p>There is a lot of opportunity out there for everyone if you can study and learn how to use the available tools online for your benefit.</p>
<p>Before you get blown away by the statistics, please do take these with a grain of salt. I got this from an Econsultancy website. It may not be very accurate but its reflective of the reality online.</p>
<p>Below are the online statistics.</p>
<ul>
<li>Facebook <a href="http://www.facebook.com/press.php">claims</a> that 50% of active users log into the site each day. This would mean <strong>at least 175m users every 24 hours</strong>… A considerable increase from the previous 120m.</li>
<li>Twitter <a href="http://www.twitterrati.com/2010/01/26/75m-twitter-users-but-growth-slowing/">now has</a> <strong>75m user accounts</strong>, but only around 15m are active users on a regular basis. It’s still a fair increase from the estimated 6-10m global users from a few months ago.</li>
<li>LinkedIn <a href="http://blog.linkedin.com/2009/10/14/linkedin-50-million-professionals-worldwide/">has over</a> <strong>50m members worldwide.</strong> This means an increase of around 1m members month-on-month since July/August last year.</li>
<li>Facebook currently has in excess of <strong>350 million active users on global basis.</strong>Six months ago, this was 250m… meaning around a 40% increase of users in less than half a year.</li>
<li>Flickr now hosts more than <strong>4bn images.</strong> A massive jump from the previous 3.6bn I wrote about.</li>
<li>More than 35m Facebook users update their status each day. This is 5m more than towards the end of July, 2009.</li>
<li>Wikipedia <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia">currently</a> has in excess of <strong>14m articles</strong>, meaning that it’s 85,000 contributors have written nearly a million new posts in six months.</li>
<li>Photo uploads to Facebook have <strong>increased by more than 100%.</strong> Currently, there are around <strong>2.5bn</strong> uploads to the site each month – this was around a billion last time I covered this.</li>
<li>There are more than <strong>70 translations available</strong> on Facebook. Last time around, this was only 50.</li>
<li>Back in 2009, the average user had 120 friends within Facebook. This is now around 130.</li>
<li>Mobile is even bigger than before for Facebook, with <strong>more than </strong><strong>65m users accessing the site through mobile-based devices.</strong> In six months, this is over 100% increase. (Previously 30m). As before, it’s no secret that users who access Facebook through mobile devices are almost 50% more active than those who don’t.</li>
</ul>
<div>
<ul>
<li>There are more than <strong>3.5bn pieces of content</strong> (web links, news stories, blog posts, etc.) shared each week on Facebook.</li>
<li>There are now 11m LinkedIn users across Europe.</li>
<li>Towards the <a href="http://royal.pingdom.com/2009/11/13/in-depth-study-of-twitter-how-much-we-tweet-and-when/">end of last year</a>, the average number of tweets per day was over <strong>27.3 million.<br />
</strong></li>
<li>The average number of tweets per hour was around <strong>1.3m.<br />
</strong></li>
<li>More than 700,000 local businesses have active Pages on Facebook.</li>
<li>Purpose-built Facebook pages have created more than <strong>5.3bn</strong> fans.</li>
<li>15% of bloggers spend <strong>10 or more </strong>hours each week blogging, according to Technorati&#8217;s new <a href="http://technorati.com/blogging/feature/state-of-the-blogosphere-2009/">State of the Blogosphere</a>.</li>
<li>At the current rate, Twitter will process almost<strong> 10bn</strong> tweets in a single year.</li>
<li>About 70% of Facebook users are outside the USA.</li>
<li>India is currently the fastest-growing country to use LinkedIn, with around 3m total users.</li>
<li>More than 250 Facebook applications have over a <strong>million</strong> combined users each month.</li>
<li><strong>70% </strong>of bloggers are organically talking about brands on their blog.</li>
<li>38% of bloggers post brand or product reviews.</li>
<li>More than <strong>80,000</strong> websites have implemented Facebook Connect since December 2008 and more than <strong>60m</strong> Facebook users engage with it across these external sites each month.</li>
</ul>

<p>I&#8217;m pretty excited to be here on WordPress with my own domain. Hello friends!</p>
<p>Right now, using WordPress seems a bit daunting &#8211; new dashboard, new controls, more features than that of blogger&#8230; I&#8217;m only learning the tech side of a lot of things. Being semi-dyslexic, I can be quite slow with technical details. With a little patience and a LOT of focus, and help from some friends, I&#8217;ll get this blog up and running.</p>
<p>Themes-wise, I&#8217;m yet to learn the codes and techniques for HTML or CSS. I want my blog to be ME. Later on, I would like to create a blog thats catered to giving helpful information to its readers. The blog theme? Still no idea.</p>
<p>There is a lot to learn but I know learning WordPress will be really helpful in the future. Its not just for blogging, you never know for what purpose this tool can be used for.</p>
<p>Looking forward to establishing my little place in cyberspace.</p>

<p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;">My favorite parts were the segments on vlogging and bloggers&#8217; roles in the coming National Philippine Elections 2010. That&#8217;ll be a whole separate post but I really liked the points of the speaker. For those who think bloggers are just a bunch of lazy bums with nothing to do with their lives, you are starkly wrong. There is much the blogsphere can do. It gives a voice to regular people like you and me. It can be a really powerful tool.</p>
<p>As for vlogging (video blogs), its still at its infancy stage. Think </span></span><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaOF2i3eQO0&amp;feature=fvste3"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"> Happy Slip</span></span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"> and </span></span><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIIDP2nfEUs&amp;feature=fvste3"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;"> Moymoy Palaboy </span></span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;">. Right now, most of the vlogs I&#8217;ve encountered are just about random crazy stuff that people come up with. &#8220;Productive Boredom&#8221; is what I&#8217;d call it. I&#8217;m just real curious as to how its going to evolve. Definitely, someone will come up with a socio-political vlog. That I&#8217;m very excited to see. I&#8217;d make one if I could but I just don&#8217;t have the time and resources.</p>
<p></span></span></div>
<div><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:verdana;"><br /></span></span><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:verdana;">What would I vlog about if I had time to vlog?</span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:verdana;"></p>
<p>1) I&#8217;d vlog about different positive things that are happening around the metro &#8211; like GK, or concerts for a cause, organic Philippine-made products (or Philippine made products in general),some cool youth initiatives like </span></span><a href="http://www.akomismo.org/"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:verdana;"> Ako Mismo</span></span></a><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:verdana;">. I think the Ako Mismo people and the </span></span><a href="http://dakilaphilippines.multiply.com/notes/item/35"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:verdana;">Juan Tama</span></span></a><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:verdana;"> people should come up with vlogs.</span></span>
<div><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:verdana;"><br /></span></div>
<div><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:verdana;">2) I&#8217;d vlog about being a frustrated fashionista and a fashion disaster on the road of transformation and conversion because she&#8217;s seen &#8220;the light&#8221;. haha!</p>
<p></span></span><b><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:verdana;"> Anyway&#8230;</span></span></b><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:verdana;"></p>
<p>I think the best part of it all was meeting new people (I always like meeting people) &#8211; the Mozilla people, the Mindanao Bloggers, </span></span><a href="http://www.jehzlau-concepts.com/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;">Jehz Lau</span></span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:verdana;">, and the other bloggers (you know who you are). There are so many cool ideas out there. Hope to see &#8216;em all emerge into reality.</span></span></p>
<p><center><a href="http://s577.photobucket.com/albums/ss219/glittersmoke/?action=view&amp;current=wordcamp2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss219/glittersmoke/wordcamp2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket" /></a><br /><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:small;">The speakers</span></center></p>
<p><b><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:large;"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:verdana;"> My Lovely Pho </span></span></b><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-size:small;"><span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:verdana;"></p>
<p>I&#8217;ve been craving for Pho since Friday night. After WordCamp, the Nuffies were nice enough to agree and eat at Pho Hoa.</span></span></p>
<p><center> <a href="http://s577.photobucket.com/albums/ss219/glittersmoke/?action=view&amp;current=wordcamp3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss219/glittersmoke/wordcamp3.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket" /></a>
<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-small;">(My Pho is actually the one in the background. Carlos&#8217; is the on in the foreground. Oh well, I&#8217;m just leaching pictures anyway. He takes really cool pictures doesn&#8217;t he? Check out his food food blog </span><a href="http://www.foodiemanila.blogspot.com/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-small;"> Foodie MAnila </span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-small;">)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;"></div>
<p></center></p>
<p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Pho is my ultimate comfort and happy food. I like it with LOTS of chopped chilli and the red hot sauce you see in the picture. Extra Spicy is the way to go baby</span></div>

<p>Its things like this that will kill television. With the internet on the rise, and the blogsphere getting ever so popular, the new celebrities are no longer just the new hottest actors/ actresses. One word. Bloggers.</p>
<p>Project Alpha is the first online TV show Uncovering Malaysia&#8217;s Top Bloggers. Its a look into the lives of some Malaysia&#8217;s top bloggers. People read their blogs, read their thoughts, insights, stories and follow their blogs like they would follow the lives of celebrities. But wouldn&#8217;t it be awesome to have a peak into what their lives are like outside the blogsphere. You know,see how they move, hear them talk. Basically see the faces behind the blog posts. Its a really awesome idea (TV is dead!). I wonder when we&#8217;ll be able to do something similar in the Philippines.</p>
<p>Check out the first episode of Project Alpha. Its on Malaysian top blogger <a href="http://fourfeetnine.com/">fourfeetnine.com</a>. She&#8217;s the girlfriend of <a href="http://timothytiah.blogspot.com/">Timothy Tiah</a>, Nuffnang&#8217;s founder. Yes, she really is 4&#8242;9. And I thought I was short! But I do find her real cute.<br /><center><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pBwl3ZljZ8g&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pBwl3ZljZ8g&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object></center></p>
<p>So that&#8217;s episode one. I&#8217;m actually pretty excited about episode two and the episodes on the other bloggers.</p>
<p>If all goes well here in Manila, I&#8217;ll get to meet fourfeetnine (real name: Audrey), <a href="http://www.jojostruys.com/">Jojo Styrus</a> (the host), Timothy Tiah, and the rest of the Malaysian &#8220;celebrity&#8221; bloggers this October. Not to mention, some of the Filipino celebrity bloggers and top bloggers.</p>
<p>Keeping fingers crossed!</p>
